Towards the end of 2010...

It's been a long time since my last post. I can't imagine I'm so lazy in terms of updating my blog...

Some highlight of the x'mas holiday.

Dec 24: Got a new cell phone in Best Buy: Sony X10. They have white colour in stock. So I just quickly grab one. I like it being stylish, good camera, and it's an Android phone that comes with decent price tag. Dinner @ my friend's place.

Dec 25: Went to Aberdeen in the afternoon, since it's one of the few places still open in x'mas day. Spend the rest of the time exploring the new phone.

Dec 26: Dim sum lunch with in-law family. My treat to "celebrate" my pay increase. But surprisingly, I found the in-call volume kinda low with my new phone. I almost can't hear what's the other side is talking about in the restaurant. In quiet place like home is fine. And another bad thing is that the x10 cannot connect to my hubby's cell phone wi-fi (i.e. ad-hoc wi-fi). That's actually the primary reason for me to switch to smart phone. So, after numerous effort searching the web and rooting the phone...we still can't get it work as this is not supported by the Android OS...

Dec 27: Find another down side of the phone, it doesn't connect to my car's bluetooth. So...all effort in vein, I'm going to get another phone. So, no more Android (that means all those nice screen Samsung, HTC are off the list). And the only choice would be Nokia N8, iPhone and LG (WM7). I am not really into LG phone so the choice is down to N8 and iPhone. I tried out my SIL's iphone4 and it does offer all I want. It tethers fine, connects to my car, and Chinese support is great. Whereas N8 there is no Chinese support (except the browser) unless I flash the rom. I'm not an iPhone fan, but Nokia smart phone doesn't seem to receive positive feedback either. And they do come in different price tag: $100 difference. And luckily, there is one demo unit in Best Buy so I can give it a try. Despite the highly criticized UI, I do find it ok, as I am already used to Nokia interface. So, I'm more leaning towards N8. The only thing I'm not certain is whether it connects to my car bluetooth or not. But there is work around, the SIM card slot is actually on the side so SIM card is easily taken out. If it really can't pair bluetooth w/ my car, I can still use my old phone while in car. It's a bit troublesome but I don't really hate it as long as SIM car is easily accessible. Comparing to the X10, the case is really hard to open.

Dec 29: really need to take a break from the cell phone. The research is actually quite exhausting. I'm taking half day off to do blood test and also another scan.
After that hubby and I shop a bit in North Van/Oakridge and finally we decided to head to William Tell. Heard it's closing the door after Dec 31. I really like the food/service there. Sad to see it closed. When we get there, we found out that actually today is the last day. And the receptionist is nice enough to "squeeze" out a timeslot for us (as we don't have reservation), but we only have an hour. It's ok, both of us eat fast. We just ordered two set dinner, no more lobster bisque (which is one of my favourite), too bad. But we do enjoy the service and food. So bye bye William Tell...

Dec 30: Today I went to Best Buy to return my X10. The same sales rep that sold the unit to me were there and he did recognize me. He also agreed that the volume is a bit low but can be done after rooting. Anyway, I decided to return the phone anyway to get N8 instead. I am honest to them that I'm not sure this phone can be compatible with my car so in the end if it really doesn't work out I have to return once again and get iPhone4. Too much of a surprise, the sales rep (another guy serve me this time) let me go out to my car and try out the N8 before payment process completed! Amazing! I wasn't expect that! What about I just walk out the door and never come back? Anyway, after many paring attempts, N8 finally pairs with my car's bluetooth. I'm happy! And I do find the sales rep in Best Buy Mobile department really great! Great customer service! They don't show any "black face" on returning (because that's a lot of work also involves calling Rogers and taking time waiting). I do recommend purchasing from there.

Dec 31: Half day work again. Well...decided to try out my luck as it's the last Friday of the month. It's sad to see 3rd floor is now permanently closed. And there is only 1 table available on the 2nd floor. We met Linda there. Well, no luck in terms of winning but it's closed (need only 1 number for me and my hubby).

This weekend

Life seems to resume to my normal routine.

Saturday, went to train model show. Yeah, DH is a steam engine fanatic.

Sunday, I tried to look for a new wok since the cheap one I was using, the non-stick layer started to peel off. It's time for a new one.

But the shop I have been to has no sale so I decided to look around.

Had dinner in my friend's place. So stuffed today! Although, I do think that I just had 1/3 of my usual portion...I can't handle too much "good" food now...oh well.

Piano version

Repeat *

Now I really find the piano score, but this is what I get so far(guitar only):
Fm# E D A

So long ago...

Haven't updated this blog for so long. Too many things happened lately I have actually opened another blog for that matter.

Anyway, this weekend. I tried to resume normal activity and finally I got my wallet. My wallet was worn out for at least half a year and I was searching for a new one for long. I wanted to go to US to shop in the coming long weekend hoping for more varieties but my Mom was against it. So, I went to Leone and just tried my luck there. And yes, I found a very similar one to the one I used now. I don't really like the gold trim but I run out of idea where to look again. And this one is cheaper than the ones I like from Holt Renfrew. So, mission accomplished.

Saw a very nice set of necklace/earring/bracelet from Swarovski that would match my dress perfect! Going to wear for friend's full month banquet and company x'mas dinner. So, together with the wallet, spend $1300...definitely break my own record of spending in a day...oh well...

Parents back!

Saturday: Get up at 10am. Make the Portabello Mushroom fried rice till 11:30. Then went to the makeup appointment at 12. Went to hair salon afterwards. Back home about 2pm. Then go to the airport to pick up parents. My Dad is coming too! He hasn't been here for long time! Help them to unpack the luggage. Dinner with the in-law family at 8pm in Sun Sui Wah. It's surprised that even though there is wedding banquet outside, the dishes still came quick and plenty of staff to help us out. It's great dinner. The steam rockcod is great too!

Sunday: dim sum with mom's friend. She said that I look more chubby. I saw her about half a year ago but my weight is not as much difference from now. Hm....This is the 2nd comment I got that I look more chubby in 3 days... >_<
Off to work after dim sum lunch, till 8pm...dinner in Bauhinia Restaurant.

I got waken up at 7am these day by the pipe construction outside. Why do they start work so early???

House cleaning Completed

Just on time before my parents landed. :)

Didn't post the status of house cleaning since last week because ever since Monday, I guess I'm not supposed to do any "heavy" work. But still, I did clean up master bedroom. And my hubby helped out to mop the master bathroom floor and clean the shower stand, and I mop the kitchen floor. Didn't clean the fridge at the end.
Also made a trip to Ikea to recycle battery and those energy saving light bulb, and went to Home Depot to get the house number sticker. Mom has asked me to put the house number sticker on the gate facing the back lane for long time.

Now, house is in good enough condition for review.

Overeat...

These days I ate a lot.

I was on diet but last month I ate lots of ice cream, and stuffed myself a few times.

Yesterday friends came over to my house for gathering. I bought quite a few snacks and of course I had those chips as well...

Oh well...

Labour day

Friday: dinner at home (which is a bit unusual these days)

Saturday: plan to have dim sum lunch @ Aberdeen center but all booked until an hour later. So we decided to head to Gingeri in Lansdowne mall instead. The reason to have lunch along sky train station is that I'm asking my husband to go to Point Roberts to pick up my parcel while I can go home by skytrain. Since I'm taking skytrain anyway, I decided to head to the Nespresso boutique so that I can take my coffee pod to recycle. After that, I shopped in Oakridge for a bit before heading to attend the Taiwan Fest in downtown area. My SIL got some VIP ticket from her workplace so we are going to watch a fashion show (which is part of the opening ceremony). We got there around 5:30 and had some snack before the opening ceremony starts at 7:30. The fashion show is great, unlike the one I have been before. I can even recognize some familiar faces of the model. I think they are popular model from Taiwan. Some bridal gown show I have been before is not as great as this one.
Taiwan Fest Fashion Show

Sunday: Starts my house cleaning project. It's actually a HUGE job since my house has been a mess for some time already. The stuff that I bought are lying on the floor, the bills from last April are still waiting to be filed. Anyway, I try to tackle the den first, since that's the worst place. I clean up all the newspaper (from last month), and then started to file the bill/statement. And my hubby clean the stove and shed his own bill/statement. I clean the bathtub too. Took me so much energy since the soap scum has built up for quite a while. After my hard work, the bath tub is once again shiny. :) At night I went to friend's place for steak. It's Wagyu steak ordered from Costco online. Although it's not as tasty as the Japanese one, but still very good! And huge too! I was soooo stuffed!

Monday: Continue to clean up my house. Den is 90% done. Living room 80%. And the recycle paper and stuff almost filled up half of my kitchen. Hubby said if someone tried to break in at night, he/she will sure trip over and get hurt! Had Peking duck dinner with friends...YUM~

Pending: Mom's room, my room, computer room, mop the floor, trim my in house plant...

P.S. Took me actually one hour to carry all the recycle material to my cars, and then to recycle depot and dump them...Very good workout!

A bit crazy...

It's a bit crazy....to drive to Oregon coast and back in the same day.
Yes I have been to Oregon many times but still seems like there are some places worth dragging me there.

This time, is the steam train ride at the Oregon coast.

My hubby is an engine fanatic. Or I should say, he love things which is engine related: car engine, steam train engine, and even big machinery...

For me, I love the scenery. Last time when we plan our trip to Oregon to enjoy the ocean and beach, it's the rainy and the coldest day within August. As we are disappointed, we want to go again this time, as we are sure that it's sunny as promised by the weather forecast!

But in order to save the hotel cost, we decided to go as a one day trip! Aside, I feel a bit bad that I can't join the my coworker's housewarming party...

Anyway, we took off at 6:30am and arrived at the train depot at 1:20pm (train departed at 2am), with only 1 stop. Time was a bit tight at the estimated time by the navigation software is originally 2:30. And NO, we didn't drive super fast. I'd believed that the software is giving out too generous estimation...And I was also surprised to see there are at least 5 cops within 10 minutes drive across the border. They do start early!

Anyway, the ride is a bit short but I do enjoy the scenery. I guess I should try the dinner train next time as the route is a bit different. Will definitely see sunset along the way...

Sunday: give up another house warming party... :(
We are quite tired from the trip and also I am going back to work for a short time.
In the end, we went dim sum lunch, then movie, then work, then go to night market for dinner. To my surprise, the night market seems pretty good this year. The layout is better, and there are actually two stages for performances. I am seeing more locals and it does becomes an multi-cultural event, which is good. The other good thing is we are able to find a street parking spot near by! Bought some DVD, cute socks (5 pairs for $10), and we had young coconut, grilled squid, rice roll with mix sauce, squid ball, dumplings, and the best one, is the twist potato! The whole potato is sliced (like potato chips) but still linked by a bamboo stick and then deep fried. We chose the favour (ketchup or with cheese powder) and it tastes great!

Swimming

Haven't gone swimming for quite a while. Just able to swim 20 minutes today (25m pool).
Now my legs are so sore...

August recap

July 30-Aug 2 (long weekend)
Friday: Friend's birthday dinner
Saturday: attend friend's wedding ceremony in the afternoon, then went to try out Starry Light Restaurant for the first time, then went to watch firework.
Sunday: Whistler (will post picture later)
Monday: Went to work and then after getting off work, go to Canlis Restaurant in Seattle for dinner! Besides food, I LOVE the ladies' washroom there!

Aug 6-9
Oregon Trip

Aug 14 Saturday
Went to Seattle to visit friend's new born baby boy. He's now 6 months old and just so cute and well behaved! :) No crying, and actually LAUGH a lot! Had a great Thai dinner.

Aug 15 Sunday

Had dim sum lunch with friend then accompany her for her wedding photo shoot dress trial. Basically help her out in picking wedding gown for her photo session.

Week of Aug 15-21 - dim sum week
Dim sum on Aug 15 - 金如意 (as mentioned above), then Aug 16 - 新庸記, as well as Aug 20 - 順鋒!

Aug 18
My friend's birthday dinner @ Guu gastown. It's Lady's Night since all girls this time, 5 of us. Haven't been to gas town for long time. After dinner we took some night shot in gastown. And when we started to go home...guess what, my friend's car goes out of battery...so I have to call my private BCAA (aka my hubby) to come for help...by the time we went home already mid-night.
Gastown @ night

Gastown is a famous tourist spot and even though it's close to 11pm at night, there are still a few people taking night shots with this steam clock.

Aug 21 Saturday
Company Picnic @ Stanley Park.
Haven't been to company picnic a few years already. There is door prize this time. And the grand prize is a netbook! WOW! it's very surprising. Never see door prize for company picnic. But no I didn't get that. The other prize is nice too, a set of Magic Bullet. There is also magic show (more for the kid) but I do enjoy it. Too bad there is construction going on so the view to the beach is blocked. Otherwise it's perfect!

Aug 22 Sunday
Had afternoon tea in Hotel Vancouver (to use my groupon). They have an interesting way to charge HST. The $2.16 HST came from the $18 room charge but we actually did not pay any room charge. But the 15% tip amount is of the full price and already added to the bill. Although I would think it doesn't make too much sense to charge 15% tip for serving two people, it's ok since the tax is lower amount than I expected. Then I spend the night mostly on making card. I had a hard time trying to make masculine card.

August Oregon Trip

Can't believe I haven't blogged for almost a month!

Just an overdue post about the Oregon Trip in August.

Oregon Trip 2010

As you can see from the album cover, the weather is just bad. I was so looking forward to this trip by the seaside and turn out to be the worst weather in a month.
We spent 2 days in Oregon Coast and both days are rainy and COLD. Then it turns sunny the day we left the coast...oh well.

Day 1: arrive at Portland around 7pm. My hubby tried to buy a cell phone from AT&T and I have called almost 10 AT&T stores to make sure that the model he want is in stock. So, we arrived at one AT&T store, and turned out that they do NOT want to sell to people who do not have an account...But at least, we later got one from a nearby mall. So we had dinner in the foodcourt there. And guess what, we had Chinese food! The plate is huge and actually tastes not bad. Then we drove to Astoria by the time we got there it's almost 11pm.

Day 2: Plan to visit Maritime Museum. Just that my hubby found DOG PAW muddy mark on his car, so there must be some dogs climb over his car. As a car lover that almost took away all his mood for anything. So I was trying to ask around places for car wash and luckily, there is one around. So we went for touchless car wash first, then just drop by a scrapbook store, before we head back to the Maritime Museum. We had a good time in the museum.
After visiting the museum, we also board the light boat. It's interesting to see the facilities inside the light boat. Then we went to Ship Wreck site in Fort Stevens State Park. That is a long drive (from the entrance of the park to the ship wreck site). After that, we are going to Tillamook cheese factory and on to Cape Meares light house as planned. But it's rather late by the time we got to Cape Meares so we don't really have a chance to hike, also it's too cold and rainy to hike.
We stayed in Lincoln City that day. Also by the water. But it's too cold to open the window to listen to the sound of the wave...it's a total waste to spend the $ to stay by the sea side...

Day 3: Finally sun came out and took a few shots in the nearby beach. Then we went on to outlet and then downtown. We want to buy red wine for my friend. We shopped a bit in downtown and then time to dinner! We had dinner @ Pastini-Bridgeport Village and love the set menu there. 3 course menu for $15! Soup/salad + Pasta + Dessert! Great deal!

Day 4: Hubby's track day and he dropped me off @ Washington Square. Since I was carrying two bottle of wine + his camera gear, I had a hard time go shopping. After walking for 2 hours I give up, just stay in the food court and go on the internet (wi-fi in food court) for 3 hours until hubby came back...

This ended the 4 day trip. Not a perfect trip as planned (bad weather and didn't shop much) but life isn't perfect all the times anyway. It's still enjoyable and relax to be out of town, no complain. :)

Tofino Trip

Weekend - movie + whale skeleton exhibition

Saturday: visit the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, featuring the blue whale skeleton. While we are leaving, we saw the open house sign so we just like to drop by. Not for house hunting, but I love to see nice interior design of the display suite. We just follow a group of mainland visitors to look at the display suite. 1500 sq ft for $1.4 million, $400 monthly fee. And there is a weird huge column/post in the middle of the living room. I feel like living in my own house more and more then.
Well, after the exhibition, we shopped along 4th Ave and there is meat shop, selling BBQ ribs for $5. Got attracted by the food sample. Since I haven't had lunch yet so I thought it's a good idea to try out the ribs. And don't know why and what happened, after a few minutes, my lip started to swollen, as if I was bitten by mosquito on the lip. I can feel my lip growing bigger and bigger and a bit itchy. So I just quickly ran inside the shopper drugs mart and ask the pharmacist for recommendation. Maybe some allergy pill or cream? He recommended an allergy pill to me and after taking that, the swollen part ease off quick. That was a bit scary as I have never been like that. The pharmacist does warn me that this drug is drowsy. I wasn't paying too much attention because I seem to be able to stay awake quite well even with drowsy drugs. But I guess he's so right this time, I almost fall asleep during the movie. Yeah, we watched The Knight and Day. It's a Tom Cruise film and I saw some positive critic/review but too bad it's not doing so well w/ the box office. I do sleep early as I was really sleepy...

Sunday: want to go Grouse Grind but too lazy...Want to watch A-Team but the show time on the newspaper was wrong, so we watched Inception instead. The plot/idea is pretty interesting; but a bit complicated. I got confused about the ending. But I do feel better than Matrix. There are some similarities between them.

Monday: finally I mop the floor...

Pot luck

所以,有時候得與失,都很難判斷,only time can tell。

I feel blessed。

This weekend - World Cup Final

Saturday: had lunch with friend. We talked about card making and stuff. Too bad I missed the World Cup final game - German Vs Uruguay. Seems to be an exciting game with lots of goal: 3-2. Went to US in the afternoon, had dinner there as well.

Sunday: went to friend's place to watch the final game: Netherlands vs Spain.
This year, the world cup result seems a bit usual. All the "famous team" are out in the early stage - France, Brazil, England, Italy etc. There are only 2 games that I get up early to watch on the weekend. But both teams that I cheered for, lost. Brazil and England both lost. And German seems to play pretty well so I was hoping it will be the finalist but too bad, it lost to Spain. And the result seems to be predicted precisely by Mr Paul the Octopus. So in the final game, I don't really know who to cheer for. I'm leaning towards Netherlands because I had support them in the past. But "Paul" seems to predict otherwise. And Paul is right, Spain won the World Cup this year, with 1-0 as the final score. Basically it's a pretty boring game, not much goal, and it's kinda slow paced. I was about to fall asleep in the middle. After the game, my friend did some BBQ so I had a "great lunch". After lunch I played MJ with them and again, I lost miserably. They are really experts and played way too fast. Or is my brain too slow for this now?? Had dinner there as well, when I got home it's around 10pm.

Trade off

This is a very productive week in terms of card making.

I have completed 4 cards this week...during 2 WEEKDAY nights...

But, I am trading off my sleep time for that.

You can see those cards here and there.

Overall, I'm happy. And I don't feel seriously sleepy though. I guess the heavy dose of coffee works (even though decaf).

Had dinner in friend's place tonight. Haven't been there for more than a month. This time, I'm brave enough to step on the scale.

Movie weekend

Watched two movies this weekend - Toy Story 3 and Shrek 3. Yeah, both are animation type.

Both are good but for a good laugh, I would pick Toy Story. Love the Barbie and Ken scene. :P

Also visited Urban Tea Merchant in West Van. The afternoon tea price tag is quite surprising. It's like $40-ish for a full set and $25 for a mini set. The mini-set is really "mini" as I can see from the other table. Maybe one day I got the Lotto 649 I will splurge on it.

Afternoon Tea @ Meloty Fine Tea

話說last weekend突然craving想去食high tea。

佢有幾種afternoon tea menu,不過我都係被all u can eat吸引咗,反正價錢唔係爭好遠。$25 all you can eat vs $16 (two type of food and drink)。

(picture taken by cell phone, 所以quality麻麻)

中間係Waffle(有bacon bit and cheese喺上面)。

食到咁上下個server就問我哋要唔要second round,原來all you can eat嘅意思就係可以點多幾round。

仲有pannaa cotta,chocolate mousse,jello,mango pudding。

我揀咗個mango cheese, banana creme tart and fruit tart。

Anniversary 2010

This year we decided to stay in town to celebrate our 4th Anniversary. Time flies!
On Friday, I took off a bit early and we went to downtown Shangri-la for lunch. Then we shop around a bit, until dinner @ UBC Golf Club, where we got married.

Saturday, we went hiking in Mt Baker, WA, after seeing the gorgeous view from friend's picture. We didn't really "hike" but just took a couple pictures there, since we took off a bit late. When we were in Costco, people just sit on the "ice-box" to watch the World Cup game USA vs Ghana. Just managed to watch the extra time but too bad USA lost. I was hearing positive feedback that USA indeed played well in the World Cup game this time. Btw, US Costco is so generous in giving out food sample. The sample size is often HUGE (I considered 1/3 of the Hagan Daz ice-cream bar to be huge portion for food sampling). Also, lots of varieties. There is no need for "lunch" any more, at least for me. Dinner @ Palisade Waterfront Restaurant. Gorgeous view of the marina. Decent food, great service, all come with a price tag. Around $120 with 2 appetizer, 2 main course and 1 dessert.
Got home around 1am, super tired after the long day.

Sunday, even I set my alarm clock around 8am, I am able get up by myself to watch the World Cup! This is the first game that I tried to get up early to watch. It's England vs Germany. But too disappointing that the England lost 1-4. In the afternoon, we went to Meloty Fine Tea for afternoon tea. I'll talk more about it in the next post. After that I went back to work for 2 hours and then head home. Too stuff that I feel like "do some housework". So I clean up the bathroom. Want to mop the floor as well but seems too late now...

Mt Rainer Scenic Tour in WA

Went to Oregon during the weekend. On the way we stopped by Mt Rainer for a steam engine train ride. We always want to go for a steam train ride as my hubby is fascinated about engine, no matter it's car or train. So we have been researched on steam train tour for quite some time. And we finally did it this time.

It took about 4 hours to get to the train station. The traffic is pretty slow in some areas (when it passes through the small town).

The weather is not that great but at least it doesn't rain hard. We are still able to get a few shots. It's end of June and still chilly. I remembered one year we went to Oregon in May or June and it's so hot that I have to buy new clothes and get changed right away. Anyway, the ride is a bit rough in some area. But it's exactly "as seen on movie/TV" that in the old days that's how the steam engine train sounds like. Feeling of "back to the old days".

After about 40 minutes ride, the train will stop in a picnic area for 20 minutes or so then ride back to the depot.

Mt Rainer scenic train tour

After the ride we head to Oregon for dinner. Meet up with P and his wife (yeah my hubby drag him to the track for the first time). Next day (Sunday) they head off to the track while I join the other 2 wives to go shopping in Washington Square. I spent record low amount...only spent $50. After lunch in Cheesecake factory we head back to the track. I'm sure the guys didn't have a great time since it rains pretty hard at times. No one dare to drive fast, but still there were two accidents I heard, including one roll over...oh well.

We started heading back to Van at around 5:30pm. Then to Cheesecake Factory (again) for dinner. This time in Bellevue though. Then back home at about 11:30pm.

Nespresso

It first draws my attention with these commercials featuring George Clooney. You just can't underestimate the power of advertising.

I finally got mine: C185 Le Cube. This helps a lot since I am able to be more awake as I'm lack of sleep these days...

A review on how to make use of the machine...

Diet - Day 7

Went to the Keg last night. Had the daily special of sirloin steak with lobster and shrimp. The sauce is a bit fatty. My appetite is so small now I can only fish half of the 8 oz steak. And I love the bun ...it's so crisp outside and soft inside, and it's hot too! I had 2 bites only.

As of this morning...I'm down 6.2lb! yeah!

Looking forward to what I can eat today...rice + veggie! Haven't had RICE for a week now!

Diet - Day 5

I still don't feel dizzy at all. But I'm just ultra hungry in the lunch hour that I "broke" the rule, just had a pack of veggie soup mix...But...I'm still happy that it's finally the "meat" day! I am going to have chicken with tomato tonight. :) Haven't eaten any meat since last Sunday...

Got another diet plan from coworker. She loses quite a lot of weight after her pregnancy, now she's even slimmer than before she had baby. According to her the diet meal is 800 calories each day. There are tons of recipes to choose from as well. Hm...should I go with the Chinese recipe or the Western one...hm....

Chinese one: easier/quicker to prepare, but 1000 calories
Western one: more varieties dishes to choose from, only 800 calories, but would take much longer to prepare. Which one to choose...hm....

This morning, down about 5lb as of today.

My new card blog

I decided to have a dedicate blog for my card design. This one would be straightly for "my state of mind". From now on all the card related post will be here.

Diet - Day 4

So far I am feeling ok. I was afraid that I will feel dizzy like last time. But I'm feeling alright, with the only problem that I don't seem to sleep very well. These 2 nights I just wake up in the middle of nights and can't fall asleep, which makes me quite tired today. But I do try to sleep earlier than usual, maybe it just takes some time to adjust an earlier sleeping schedule.

Down about 4lb as of today.

Diet

I want to resume my diet plan.

Goal is down 6-10lb by the end of this month.

1st week: soup diet
2nd week: light exercise
3rd week: soup diet+light exercise
4th week: intense exercise

Sunday

I was hoping to have more rest but in the end I just woke up by myself at 10:30. It's after all 10 hour sleep but I was thinking a little more be better. Anyway, I decided to head out for early dim sum lunch. Dim sum is great as usual. After that me and my hubby went to visit father in law and brought him some cherries. Since there is about 1.5 hour left before meeting my friend, I ask my hubby to drop me off at downtown Sears to get my nail polish base coat. Mine was dry out after a few months :( I also need to shop father's day gift. As there is still 20 minutes left, I was thinking to get the gift in downtown as well before taking skytrain to the meeting place. I was a bit surprised that my friend is already there 20 minutes before. Anyway, I told her that I am on the way and will be there in 10 minutes. As I get off skytrain and take a look at the time...and it's still 20 minutes before the meeting time. At this point I sense the trouble...how could the time stays the same before I get on skytrain and after I get off skytrain? And there must be something wrong with my watch. I quickly take out my cell phone and check the time...I was actually 15 minutes late!!! Oh well..

I went with my friend to check out wedding gown and pre wedding photo package. It's so good to be slim. :) She looks so pretty in most of the gowns! Anyway, I try my very best to bargain a better price for her. I think her package is quite decent.
Since my friend is hurrying back for second visit of the open house, I ask her to just drop me off in a near by supermarket and ask my hubby to give me a ride home instead. And that kinda take my hubby away in the middle of his weekend project - replacing his car trim with carbon fiber vinyl paper. Anyway, he finally finished everything around 8 and we had dinner at home.

Was hoping to finish making my father's day card but no...my mind is empty...

So tired

Went to 2nd card making gathering. We were supposed to make some fathers' day card but I can't come up with the design. So I didn't bring enough material to her place. In the end we chit chat a bit and share some technique.

I bought a Swiss roll and I just had a slice for lunch. I kinda want another piece but seeing the other girl (who is a bit bigger size than me) also had one piece only...I sort of feel bad if I eat more than her. So I was just starving when I got home around 4. Had a cup noodle and a yogurt. Then I go browse the web for a bit while my hubby is working on the car. Don't know why I feel so tired that I just have to take a nap. I almost never have the need to take a nap since 5...Last night I sleep for about 7 hours but that shouldn't be too bad. I just took a nap on the couch until 8pm then we head off to dinner.

Still tired after dinner and time to off to bed...

This weekend

Saturday: get up at 10 and go out with my friend for her wedding gown hunting trip.
We meet at Oakridge and take the Canada Line to Bisou Bridal on Cambie and W 2nd Ave. I can still remember I found my dream gown there (they used to be around Granville Island area) but because of the price I didn't buy it. I still miss my dream gown and not that I really regret, but I do miss it. They carry more designer gown and really, more unique gown. I am quite my friend would love it. And yes, she also fell in love with the $7000 gown but with 75% off from the sample sale. A very good deal; however, we are both a bit skeptical that the gown can be altered from size 10 to 4 (my friend is slim). I don't think she will order at the end but hope she enjoys the experience.

We had quick lunch in the Beef Noodle place and then head back home for a short while, before going to Richmond to take a look at the open house. That town house is like a duplex and has a great layout. The only thing I don't really "LIKE" is that it's really pointy design (looks like a church to me) and its dark green exterior. Also the house number is "4" (which is the same sound as the word "dead" in Chinese pronunciation). Not that I'm super superstitious, but...yeah...it's just...I'd rather not. Well in the end it's all her decision. Also, according to my friend, this property is very good price, so I don't really think she's going to compete with other for it.

After that, we head to New West for another bridal gown appointment. This is the place where I bought my wedding gown. Lots of gown in the store but I was a bit surprise that they don't have that many dress with empire waist or puffy pickups. There are lots of mermaid style which I don't think will fit Asian well. Asian in general is smaller frame (and not as tall too) so may not look as good in mermaid style.

Finally, head back to Richmond to look for pre wedding photography. The store lady still remembered me, after 3 years! But I guess my friend is more interested in the package of the other store, oh well.

We had dinner in the Japanese cafe in Aberdeen center. After that, we went to the store grand opening party on Main St. I first bought this designer's clothing last year in the One of a kind Craft show. Her design is really unique and I'm glad to see she has her own store now. I was interested in a blazer but they don't have it in my size...

Sunday: Went to the Eat Vancouver show in the new Convention Center. I got the free ticket from the contest so I only pay for the food. Well, this is the firs time to go inside the new convention center but I'm truly disappointed. The exhibition hall is way smaller than the old convention center. The parkade is only 1 level (the old Canada Place has 3 levels). We spent almost 20 minutes in looking for parking. Once we got there, it's so crowded inside! The path is so narrow that I can barely get into the food booth. We spent 2 hours there, and $20 for food. Bought some salmon candy and not much. After that, since there is some time left, I still decide to go to the Epic show next door. Very nice beer sample, and I enjoy the fashion show. And since the show is closing, some vendor is giving out their stuff. I got a free bag of coffee bean! And some people in front of me got whole pineapple!

After that, we went visit my FIL. He wasn't feeling too well. And I told him that I'm going to make some fish soup for him. Then we went to shop for some grocery and went home to make soup. Because of that, we missed the 7:30pm movie. My hubby wanted to watch the Iron Man a few weeks already but we were either busy or try to avoid the crowd in the first week. At the end, we decided to watch the 10:15pm show @ Metropolis. Got home around 12:50am....

Peacock birthday card

When I first saw this HA peacock stamp, I love it. It goes to my shopping list right away.

Due to my sickness, I wasn't very active in making cards these days. But when I saw Vanessa's gorgeous creation, I knew I have to go back to the craft table.

This is my take:

In my mind, peacock is always blue/green! So I took out my broken china and peel paint distress ink right away. I was hoping I have a wide brown ribbon but despite my effort, I can't find a decent matching ribbon. So at the end I use hemp cord instead.

I use various type of distress ink:
peel paint, broken china, tea dye, antique linen for the peacock; tattered rose and spiced marmalade for the flower; shabby shutter and bundled sage for the leaves. Then I distress the edges with walnut stain.

For the larger background, I stamp Old Letter Writing with tattered rose, distress the edge with walnut stain and tea dye. Attached to dark brown card stock and tie up with a hemp cord. Finish off with Basics rhinestones. Sentiment is also HA from the CL139 Birthday Message set.

Card size is 5x7.

Baby cards

It's about time. Couple years ago I attend quite a few weddings per year. So it's about time to see more "babies" on board.

I really fell in love this card from Lucy. This is the reason I bought the HA swirly frame and baby set.
So at the end, I come up with this:

Material:
HA Stamps:
S5179 - Swirly Frame
CL265 - Adorable Baby Girl
It also took me a while to find the ink she used: Versamagic Dew Drop Pixie Dust ink
I thought I have similar pink ribbon but I can't find it! So I just pick another one.
Cuttlebug folder: Perfectly Parsley
Silver wire (got from office...shhhhh), and white/pink beads.

Another card that makes use of the swirly frame.
This is also based on Lucy's design.

Isn't this baby stamp cute? My hubby actually pick that one from the craft shop.

Materials:
Stamp:
HA Swirly Frame: S5179
The Cats Pajamas E4159 Sweet Peas
Impression Obsessions C6118 Little One
Paper: DCWD: The Sweets with Glitter package; Provo Craft & Novelty Inc: 42-4435 Pink & orange flowers
Ink: (frame) Crafters Orchid pigment ink, emboss with perfect pearl and clear embossing powder
Sentiment: Memories Black
Others: Ribbon, colour image with copic marker, rangers diamond stickles on the pea

Another Blog Candy

I'm going to try my luck. Who doesn't love chances to win?

This blog candy is offered by Vanessa. Look at her flickr photo gallery, just full of gorgeous cards. A truly talented card maker!

Let's keep my finger crossed.... :)

Victoria Day Long Weekend

Friday: Friend's house for dinner.

Saturday: Want to check out the sample sales of John Fluevog Shoes. Ever since I bought two pairs from the gas town store, this brand remains my favourite shoe brand. It's so comfry, yet stylish and unique! I never thought I'm spending almost $300 a pair but it's so worth it. I get lots of compliment when I wear it. End up I didn't buy any sales item though. There are not much selection left. Instead, I finally bought the one I already fell in love with it previously but I just don't want to buy 3 pairs one time (that would be almost $1000).
I got this and this last time.
And this is my new addition. After that, I got my hubby a t-shirt from Mexx. Then we head out for early dinner @ a Japanese noodle place besides Joe Forte. We are lucky that we got a parking spot there. I was a bit surprised that there are not many people in downtown. It's supposed to be a "long weekend" Saturday but there are not many people on the street.
After dinner, we hang out in Chapters @ south Granville for a bit and go home early. We'd love to get enough rest for the trip tomorrow.

Sunday: going to Leavenworth with my friends. I thought I cough much less now that I'm ok to go for a short road trip. I guess I'm not totally healed yet. I am heading back to the doctor on Tuesday. :(
Leavenworth Visit

Monday: had a pedicure/manicure appointment at noon. First time to try out a spa where I am hearing positive feedback. Not bad but it's a bit far. After that head back to Richmond for grocery shopping and dinner. Need to be @ home by 8pm for the season finale of 24. I rarely watched English TV series but I'm a big fan of 24.

So bitter

While traditional medication doesn't seem to do the job, it's just natural to seek on alternatives. I haven't been to Chinese doctor before, this is actually the first time, although I did drink some herbal tea while I was a kid. The smell, the bitterness of the herbal tea, all brought back my childhood memories.

In the old days, there are a few Chinese herbal shops within my vicinity. And quite often, my Mom will bring me there when I have minor sickness, instead of going to the doctor. The medication (i.e. the herbal tea), is just as bitter as you can think. And often I got compliment there since I got no trouble to drink those bitter herbal tea. And of course I got my reward after the drink: 山榨餅. And other kids? You can imagine it could be SO DIFFICULT to ask a kid to drink something with such BITTERLY awful taste. But who knows that, deep down I made no trouble to drink the tea just to enjoy the compliments from others? When I got to drink the herbal tea at home I am never as well behaved as I used to be in the shop. Just because I'm going to drink the herbal tea without compliment of being a good girl...

Btw, how come I can't sleep on weekend but I am always lack of sleep on weekdays?
Like today, I woke up at 6am on my own without a slight chance of falling back asleep... :(

It's all about cards

All about my recent production.

1. Magnolia.
This is too cute. And this card is my recent favourite.

3. Wedding card
Inspired by Suzanne’s card here.

Materials:
HA Starburst Lace S5317
HA Sentiment CL272
Memory Box: Nesting Birds (put flock powder in the middle)

The actual card size is a bit small though. (A1)

4. Another wedding card.
This is actually for my friend's order.

Material:
HA CardArt Love Birds KF888
Gem stones
Cuttle bug folder: Textile
Ribbon

5. Birthday card

6. Birthday card for my friend using the poppy stamp

I'd like to learn the emboss resist technique with this poppy stamp after seeing all the wonderful entries in the flickr group. Despite my effort, all attempts fail. I don't know why but I can't get crisp result as shown in Tami's card. After 5 trials I give up and try to make this one instead.
Material:
HA poppy cling stamp CG140
Colour with Copic markers

7. Another variation with the poppy stamp
This time I white emboss on top of the distress ink background (shabby shutter).
Then assemble on kraft and brown card stock with green ribbon. Done! Love how the brown and green goes together.

HA poppy cling stamp CG140

Dine out and Mothers' Day

This is a back log about Mothers' Day (I have to write it now before I forget).

Actually I didn't expect to celebrate Mothers' Day this year, as both my Mom and MIL were out of town. However, since Dine out Vancouver event was put off to this time of the year instead of the usual time (which is end of January) due to Winter Olympic, my SIL actually made a reservation on Mothers' Day weekend (Saturday), as a celebration of her pay increase this year. It's gonna be her treat. :)

Although I was sick but under the all-mighty anti-biotic, I still decided to head out to have dinner with my in-law family.

I haven't been Aqua River for long time. The first dinning experience years ago wasn't too pleasant. With so many choices in town I wasn't planning on re-visit until now.

To my surprise, it turns out to be a great dinner! Server is kind and dishes came out promptly. View is excellent (big window with Canada Place as backdrop). Food is huge portion and tastes good. OK...definitely back to my revisit list then! :)

Some picture taken @ Granville before.

Btw, I am so glad that my Mom as well my Dad like my design of the Mothers' Day card so much. My Dad got a big smile when he saw the card. And of course, they enjoy my gift as well. It's the Avater DVD (HK version). And the best thing is, it arrived on time (just a day before). I was expecting to arrive sooner but I guess I forget the public holiday in HK (May 1-Labour Day). So the postal service got delayed a bit.

Sick

Haven't been so sick for quite some time. So I'm not able to update my blog as often as I would like to. (Not that if anyone will actually read or care about...)

I guess, it started with my card making order. As some of you may know, card making is my latest obsession (oops I mean hobby). As a SLOW card maker, I often work on it till quite late. And to fulfill the card order, I was really working OT. During the last week of April, I wasn't really having enough sleep. But still, I was happy that I'm able to sell my card, so that I can at least cover a fraction of the cost, and also the fact that someone do like my card and is willing to pay for it.

Flu actually started on April 30, which on that day I'm going to my friend's birthday dinner. That day is so sunny and warm so I decided to dress up a bit. I picked a rather low cut dress and pair it with long boot. I also bought her a special cake but the cake is not ready by the time I got there. So I just walk around nearby shops for 15 minutes. And then, I was chilled by the cool breeze. I guess, together with lack of sleep that weaken my immune system, right away I felt something wrong. When I got back to the office, my whole body was ached (and I actually feel like an old lady that I can't even walk straight). And by dinner time, I knew that I had fever. My friends later asked me why I insist on not getting any alcohol drink. They thought I am pregnant...haha. Anyway, how can I drink with flu? After dinner, when I took my temperature, I was right, I was 101.6F and officially had a fever.

I did take a few tylenol and that usually worked. Not this time. On Saturday I was rushing to finish my last order so my sleeping time was pushed back to 3am. Bad choice I guess. On Monday I did head out to see the doctor and took a sick day.

Fever is gone after taking antibiotic. However, I am still coughing badly, even now, which is already 3 weeks...

Together with some bad symptom shown last weekend, I decided to head back to the doctor again...I don't want to pretend that I'm not worried, because I AM. I would just keep my finger crossed...

Because of the sickness, I skipped Sun Run this year...I feel sooooooo bad about this. And also I have to stop all exercising routine. :~~(

Not that I am not aware of, but I should emphasize again and again: health is just the most valuable thing money can't buy.

My first Tilda card

Ever since I have seen card with Magnolia stamp, I almost fall in love with Tilda in the first sight. It's just SO CUTE! And often, those cards are having wonderful design and layout, not to mention wonderful copic colouring, which I always dream that I could have done that in one day.

As I found the Magnolia stamp by accident in the US craft store, I am about to practise that with my copic. And of course, it's time for making Mothers' Day Card as well.

So, here it is.

Material:
Magnolia stamp.
HA sentiment
MS heart border punch
Spellbinders fancy label
Ribbon
Prima flower and button.
Copic markers

I know my skill is not there yet for any "challenges". But it doesn't hurt to try right? This is the first Magnolia challenge I sign up for: Just Magnolia, Week 52 challenge - Anything goes.
