Exercise Log (week 13)

Monday: NO exercise...had (ham+mushroom) crepe + espresso in downtown with friends instead. Orange+kiwi in late afternoon. Rice noodle for dinner.

Tuesday: Swim 25 minutes (4x free styles (LRLR) and 2x breast strokes) in the morning
Lunch: orange + 5 cherries + banana
Play soccer for 1.5 hour after work.
At night, finally I can't stand the dirty floor any more. I did the vacuum and then mop the kitchen floor. Did 1 load of laundry as well. I do believe housework is good exercise. I sweat so much during vacuum as well...

Wednesday: Don't think I'm able to go jogging at all...

Thursday: On to my anniversary get-away...

Anniversary 2009

We had a nice 4-day trip @ Oregon to celebrate our 3rd anniversary.
I have spent quite a bit of time for hotel research and there is no disappointment. It's always good to go through Trip advisor! I love this hotel!
The pictures says it all.

Day 1 - Oregon Coast. The only glitch is that the weather is not picture-perfect. It's a bit cloudy for photo shooting and quite cool. But it's alright, at least it doesn't rain.

Day 2 - Cannon Beach. We were so lucky to be able to walk to the Haystack Rock during low tide. Otherwise we can only view from far.

Day 3 - Portland shopping.

Day 4 - Heading back home and join my Seattle friend for dinner.

First time soccer

Play soccer for 1.5 hour after work. First time to play with coworkers. I score 2 goals! Yeah they just give way to me. Otherwise I don't think I can even touch the soccer ball. It's a good workout since I did sweat a lot. It's even more tiring than jogging or swimming. It requires so much energy to run FAST to chase the ball.
However the new soccer shoe is just too flat and hard at the bottom. My foot is hurt now. I need some kind of sole to put inside. Also, I should get a shin guard as well.
Although my lower body is all sore now, soccer is fun and I would like to continue playing that!

Fathers' Day weekend

Saturday: Want to go to Grouse Grind but seeing the rainy weather forecast, I give up.
And also I woke up late. This is the first time since "I forgot when" that I am able to sleep until 11am. But this does not last long. Even I slept at 4am I still got up at 9:30 on Sunday morning.

Anyway, a U classmate from Taiwan was visiting and she's going skating with my other friend, I decided to join them and go skating as well. This is the 2nd time I go skating but too bad I'm a skate/ski dummy, I still can't get it yet. Yeah, I don't expect to get it this time either.
Altogether I skate for 1.5 hour and most of the time I was walking in small steps with my skate on. Sometimes with the "walker" so that I can try the feel of the speed. I guess if I spent 10 hours I may get it, judging from the time I learn how to ride a bike...oh well. It took me 5 hours to just learn how to ride a bike. Btw, I bought a pair of soccer shoes for $20 from Zellars. On Tuesday, I will try out soccer for the first time, with my coworkers.
After dinner, I spent the whole night to make the Fathers' Day card for my FIL. Here it is:
From My creations

Sunday: I woke up early in the morning, and decided to have some fun with my nails. Then I went dimsum with my IL's family. After that FIL suggests to have a ride to the new Golden Ear Bridge. It's a toll bridge and will be in effect next month. It's a nice drive but too bad my hubby didn't enjoy that much: because of the slight rain, his car is now DIRTY.

My right arms are quite sore and I finally realized that since I constantly hold the railing so tight with my right arm during skating, my arms are sore.

My SIL almost went crazy after seeing my nail so I also did her nail as well. After that we went out for dinner. FIL is not too happy about the 45 minutes wait in the restaurant. But it's Fathers' Day, it's just busy everywhere.

Lastly, my latest "nail art". :)
Click here for the one I did for SIL.

This is mine.

Exercise Log (week 12)

Monday: Run 7.54km in 38.05 minutes. Very nice to run with cool breeze. I just ran (no stopping, yeah!) all the way to the stop sign and back. I always thought that it should be only 5k, 7.54k is a bit more than I expected. Hm...maybe I should calibrate my iPod one more time...
Lunch: banana + half orange + about 10 yellow cherries.

Tuesday: Swim 25 minutes (12 laps in 25m pool).
Lunch: kiwi, orange, 10 blackberry, banana

Wednesday: forgot what's my "excuse".

Thursday: Doctor appointment

Friday: too busy to go because of work...

Saturday: Grouse Grind....which did not happen...but went skating for 1.5 hours instead.
P.S. Learning how to skate, not really "skating". :)

鄉愁 - Nostalgia

I like travelling.

Perhaps I just like to get away from reality at times. Only in vacation my mind wander around new places and I'm able to forget about work or other burden of life.

The truth is, I can't travel whenever I want, so I see my one-hour lunch as my temporary get-away. Sometimes I drive to downtown, Granville Island, or Fisherman Wharf. Yeah, one day I drove to White Rock but I guess I won't do it again, just too far.

Today, I want to go to some where special. I think of the Chinese temple close by. It makes me feel like I'm NOT where I am, for this kind of grand Chinese temple is not easily seen in western world. The running water, beautiful garden and the great Buddha statue, all contribute to this calm and peaceful environment.

Giant Takoyaki - Bakudanyaki

For those who like Takoyaki (章魚燒), you may also want to try out the giantic version that comes with shrimp, octopus, quail, naruto, cabbage all inside plus mayo and other specialty sauce on top, all for $5.

I found it a bit pricey but it's a special once-a-while treat. I have tried the daily special (soy miso) and pizza taste. Both are good but I prefer the soy miso one. Perhaps more authentic Japanese taste?

Where can you find it? It's actually a trailer that stops in the parking lot of Blundell & Elmbridge Way, Richmond, right across Rona's parking lot.

The takoyaki is put inside a cute Chinese style take-out box.

Pizza taste and soymiso on the right.

Weekend - exhausted

Went back to work both Saturday and Sunday.

But was able to squeeze in a movie time on Saturday afternoon. Saw Up (3D) and like it a lot. It's a very touching story by Pixar. I totally recommend it.

Water the garden in the evening, and found out that I can't stand the dirt any more. So I did some cleaning of the panel and stair railings. Arms are sore.

Sunday, did all of the housework (dinner, washing, laundry, cleaning bathroom etc.) since my hubby was injured.

Not only I was physically exhausted, but also mentally. I had very rough sleep both nights.

I am having a bad time.

Exercise Log (week 11) - Injury

I was debating whether to put this entry. Because in the end, I did not have any formal exercise.

It wasn't my plan though.

It was meant to be a break. On Saturday when I water the garden, I guess I can't ignore the dirt any more. I did some cleaning on the exterior of the house including cleaning all the stairs railings, the brick steps (with all green moose) and the supposedly white aluminum panel door. My arms are quite sore after that.

But on Sunday I did plan to go out and ride a bike. I haven't been on a bike for a few years and I thought I could pick it up after a few minutes. I was wrong too. After 10 minutes, I still wasn't able to make a decent turn. We decided to take off as bike route is relatively straight and flat. And both my hubby and friend were ok.

Yeah, turn out I was wrong too.

I guess it's the tire, or the trail-like bike route that caused it. The day ended with bleeding hands and knees. Not me though, it's my poor hubby.... :(

The rest of day consisted of a few trips to the supermarket for first aid supplies, preparing dinner, washing dishes, a few laundry, bathroom cleaning...I wish all that can count as "exercise"...

Shopping extravaganza

Haven't done serious shopping for quite some time. The main reason is that I gain so much weight that I don't really care my outfit as much. Also it's not easy to get good looking clothes for this kind of body shape.

So after some sweat, I do feel my figure has improved a bit (although weight doesn't drop much). It's so hot like mid summer now that i feel the need of some new summer clothing (70% of my old summer clothes are "too small" now).

On Saturday, I went to Parker Place with my husband and got myself a rather short skort. It would be the best to wear in the hot summer days, the only down side it's a bit pricey...And people...please bear with me that my legs/thighs are huge but it's just too hot to wear long jeans! The rest of the day wasn't too great since cramps started to hurt me.

Fortunately, I am feeling better on Sunday. Only that we wish to have more sleep but still got waken up by H's friend's long distance call at 10:30. It's not "too early" but consider we are wishing to sleep till noon. Anyway, I got up later and prepare lunch. After that we went to Granville Island and spend $50 in the rubber stamp stores. Then we went to downtown Pacific Center.

Right after coming up from the parking lot, I already spent $100 in Jacob. They are having sales right now and price is not too bad. $30-$40 a piece versus $100 up in the specialty lingerie stores. Of course, the material is different. Polyester vs Silk... But it's not for "everyday" usage, I think it's fine.

After that, I tried on a few tops from Bebe. Too bad the Oakridge Bebe store has closed down so I haven't been there for a while. Usually there isn't too much for me because their clothing is generally too small. But this time I was able to find a few things. At last I got one regular price top and one half price sales item for $20. I really gave up the other two since they are still a bit tight if I pick the medium size. I hope after a month of work out I would fit the other two as well! So another $100 is gone...

Next stop, Holt Renfrew. It's "lucky" that I don't like anything in particular...so I came back with only a cosmetic sample on hand.

So far, everything I got is for myself so I feel a bit "guilty". Passing by Harry Rossen (next to HF) and seeing the 40% off sign, we went in to take a look. Yeah! I found a nice quality D&G t-shirt for my hubby. It's $200 but I decided to get him as the anniversary gift.

Finally, it's time for dinner. We had dinner in Cactus Club again. This time we had the mini-burger, yam fries again (yum!), Four mushroom steak and butter squash ravioli. $76 including tip.

After dinner, it's already too late for the movie. So we had a walk on Robson Street instead. I guess it's a mistake? 'Coz I got another dress from BCBG...Another $130 is gone...

This ends the spending of this weekend...phew...

Exercise Log (week 10)

Monday: Run (total of 50 minutes) but finish trail & all the way to the gate in 32 minutes with 2 minutes walking. Then run + walk the way back. I think the run time is about 42 minutes net.
Lunch: wheat bun hot dog + orange + a few cherries

Lunch: orange + half kiwi + a few blackberry

Wednesday: Run 45.12 minutes no walking in between but stop running around the trail entrance. Total of 6.51km (including trail, and then run until the gate, back until the trail entrance). First time to use it after buying it for 2 years! I guess if it's not that hot today (27C) I could have run all the way back to office.
Lunch: orange + half kiwi + few raspberry, 1 pack of cereal drink, 1 yogurt, tiny slice of homemade blueberry cake from coworker.

Thursday: Swim 20 minutes. Mostly free style.
Lunch: orange + apple

Friday: too busy with work, missed my running schedule... :(

Story - Resolved

Not every story has a nice ending.

Perhaps ending of this story is the beginning of a new one.

How many more twelve years do I get to live?

A nice weekend

It's getting hot these days. In other words, we had a very sunny weekend.

Went to work for 2 hours on Saturday.

On Sunday, my hubby sign up for the Harrison Hot Spring fun drive event organized by the BMW club. So we got up early for that. It's a really nice and hot day. My arms almost got burnt during the long drive. And he's so lucky to get the first door prize: a nice club polo shirt!

After that, I brought him to my new favourite cake shop but too bad, it closed earlier on Sunday. Anyway, we are still a bit too full from the brunch. So we went straight to the movie. Watched the new Terminator. Not bad, but I guess I got a bit bored now. It's the 4th one or the 5th already? Since we were still not too hungry, we decided to go to the night market to snack instead of going for regular dinner. I particularly like the deep fried salty chicken (台式鹽酥雞)and yam fries.

Time flies, it's already 11pm when we got home.
